The VFX and Games Industry

I’ve been looking into VFX, and Games Design companies to take a look into what jobs are like in the company, experience, salaries and more.

Bethesda Softworks [Rockville, DC]

Created in 1986 by Christopher Weaver, and now in 2017 it is one of the leading games companies for Story and RPG Games. They are now a sub-company of Zeni-Max Studios, and in partnership with other companies such as Battlecry. They produced leading games RPG’s such as Fallout and The Elder Scrolls, and great story games like Dishonoured and Doom.

The range of jobs are very much creative jobs. From the basics programming, to character design. All their jobs based in their HQ in Rockville, USA. However with all their RPG games they have creative jobs like Level Designer and Quest Designer. I particularly like Level Designer, as I love creating environments. For this job however, you need an excellent sense of 3D space, Experience with AAA games and Bethesda’s creation kit. It is very much a later stage job., and requires a lot of past experience. Bethesda has created some brilliant games including my all time favourites like Oblivion and Skyrim.

I can offer my knowledge of the game and passion for the games they make, it would really be a dream job to Level design caves from the next Elder Scrolls, or Fallout, despite this being a future goal.

Rockstar Games [Leeds]

Rockstar Games was created in 1998, and have over time created great games series such as GTA, Max Payne and Red Dead Redemption. They are based close by in Leeds, and I would love to work on some of their titles as Level Design, or Animation / VFX. The company asks for at least 1 year of VFX / Animation experience with a bachelor degree in Arts and Animation.  This is for a basic junior animator, however if I have a year of experience then Rockstar would be a good, local company to apply for.
